Over the years as an online marketer, I’ve learned a lot about the business.  I’ve learned a lot of technical skills.  I’ve learned a lot about running a business.  And I’ve learned a lot about setting up and running really effective promotions.

I really enjoy helping my fellow equine marketers get exposure for their businesses through the Free Horse Gifts JV event – but it has frustrated me to no end that there were some who just didn’t “get” what we were trying to do, or who were just so technically unskilled that they couldn’t do their own pages, gifts, etc.

I mean, I REALLY wanted to help them – and I couldn’t!  I didn’t have the time or energy to educate them and/or do their pages and gift for them – and they didn’t have the money to pay me or my tech crew to do them.   I felt stymied, and then finally came up with an idea:

Hold the phone – that’s a great idea!  So I sat down and came up with a list of topics I wanted to address.. and it was overwhelming,  to say the least, even to me!

After much discussion with my partner Terry Loving,  we came up with what we hope is a much better (and far simpler) solution:

A course that takes our partners through:

Understanding Permission-based marketing,
Understanding how to make money from giving a gift of value, regardless of what you’re selling!
Learning simple ways to create that gift and set up webpages for it,
And building a list of 250-500 subscribers – even before the event starts..

All critically important business assets for participating in a giveaway, as well as turning what you do into a business rather than just a part-time, expensive hobby.

Free is great, and the basis for many successful promotions.  Terry and myself were all in need of cash – we couldn’t do it for free; yet we still wanted to utilize the principles we’ve learned over the years about GIVING before GETTING.   We discussed it at length, and came up with an idea (pay attention here – this is how the gift event itself works):

Each week we present the course in two parts: an instructional presentation, complete with an assignment, and a couple days later, a Q&A session, where you can pick our brains.  We’ll look at what you have accomplished, field your questions, and talk until you’re reasonably satisfied you know what you’re doing.
